| I DO NOT HAVE HANDS ON EXPERIENCE WITH THE OLYMPUS 730. I HAVE HAD EMAILS WITH USER COMMENTS ASKING IF I WOULD BE DOING A REVIEW ON IT. SOME COMMENTS I HAVE RECEIVED WERE ON THE HIGHER ZOOM THE EDGES BECAME INCREASINGLY FUSSY. BEYOND 3 X ZOOM I FIND A TRIPOD IS NECESSARY ON MOST ALL CAMERAS. I BELIEVE IT REQUIRES OLYMPUS XD MEMORY. IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE A ADDITIONAL EXTERNAL FLASH, THE OLYMPUS FLASH IS $500.00 OPTION. ON THE HP I USE A SLOW SPEED SETTING AND USE A SLAVE TO TRIGGER THE EXTERNAL FLASH. IT WILL WORK ON THE OLYMPUS 730 ALSO. SHOTS AT 20 TO 24 FT I DO ALL THE TIME. BEYOND 25 FT I USE THE FLASH AT FULL STROBE AND GET GREAT RESULTS TO 40 FT. AND IF A WHITE REFLECTIVE CEILING GOOD RESULTS TO 50 FEET. TRY IT. THE SLAVE DOES A GREAT JOB WITH MOST ALL CAMERAS. SOMETIMES I USE A SECOND EXTERNAL FLASH, I POINT IT AT 45 DEGREES ON LONG SHOTS, 15 TO 20 DEGREES ON CLOSE-UPS. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| SOME TIMES WARRANTY PLAYS A BIG PART IN DECISION MAKING. I HOPE THE ABOVE WARRANTY INFORMATION HELPS. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| THE HP CAMERAS THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS HAVE BEEN OPTIMIZED FOR THE MAXIMUM POWER THE 4, 1.2 VOLT RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES DELIVER. I CAN NOT SPEAK ABOUT OTHER BRANDS. LAST JULY AT A SESSION I SHOT 130 PLUS PHOTOS, FLASH ON EVERY SHOT WITH THE 1 SET OF RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES. A LADY, SHOOTING A NON HP CAMERA NEXT TO ME USED UP 6 SETS OF ALKALINE, SHE TALKED TO ME AFTERWARDS AND NOW SHE USES NI MH RECHARGEABLE MILLENNIUM BRAND THAT I RECOMMENDED. I TALKED TO HER A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATTER, SHE SAID, I SAVES $30.00 TO $50.00 A WEEK ON BATTERIES NOW. CHECK OUT THE CAMERA BEFORE YOU BUY IT TO SEE IF YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH BATTERY LIFE. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I ALSO LIKE TO HOLD THE CAMERA BEFORE MAKING A CAMERA PURCHASE. SOME MODELS ARE NOT COMFORTABLE TO HOLD, OR ARE HARD TO PUSH OR OPERATE THE MENU AND SHUTTER BUTTON. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| IT REALLY HARD TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION: WHICH WILL BE BETTER. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

i
stopped at compusa, omaha, ne. and visited with the in house digital
camera expert, brian finel. i wanted to get his personal experience with
the hp 850 and the Olympus 730. he told me that currently the hp 850 was
compusa's best selling full feature camera. he recommends it to all of the
customers that inquire about a digital camera. he wants them to know that
for a little additional money spent up front that if they were to get
hooked on digital photography, they would not need to upgrade to a better
camera as they could already have a great full featured hp digital 850.
i asked him if he had used the video clip feature yet and he said he had not had time to but now was a good time to try it out. HE PUT THE HP 850 ON A TRIPOD, SET IT TO VIDEO CLIP, AND TOLD ME TO FOCUS ON HIM AND PUSH THE SHUTTER BUTTON AND HE STARTED SPEAKING. TO STOP JUST CLICK THE SHUTTER BUTTON AGAIN. GREAT RESULTS ON FIRST TRY. |

Thanks so much
for you insight and comments, you are obviously a professional and I
appreciate you taking the
time to share your experience with the rest of us. I was considering
the Nikon D100 because I have a Nikon
N80 and wanted to be able to zoom using the lenses I already own.
However, I saw the HP demo'd at an
event I recently attended and for the money and ease of use, this is
a much better option for $1500 less!
I am also
planning on getting the HP-PS 230 printer to go with it, it is a
pretty neat addition to the whole set-up.
Thanks again!
