INTEL CAMERA, STILL - WEB CAM COMBO REVIEW BY JIM BAUDO

I tried 2 of these during December, 2001. I RETURNED BOTH OF THEM AS AFTER CONTACTING THE FACTORY THEY ADVISED THAT THEY STILL HAD BUGS IN THEM UNLESS I COULD FIND ONE MANUFACTURED DATE AFTER JULY 2001.
I FOUND THE FOLLOWING ON THE INTEL WEB SITE.
PLEASE NOTE: This product is no longer being manufactured by Intel. THESE DOCUMENTS ARE PROVIDED FOR HISTORICAL REFERENCE PURPOSES ONLY AND ARE SUBJECT TO THE TERMS SET FORTH IN THE "LEGAL INFORMATION" LINK. For information on currently available Intel products, please visit www.intel.com.
THIS CAMERA HAD THE FEATURES I WANTED AND IN APRIL 2002 I FOUND 2 MADE IN JULY 2001 SO I BOUGHT THEM. THEY STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I ENCOUNTERED LAST FALL IN THAT IT WILL NOT TAKE A SINGLE PICTURE WHEN ATTACHED TO THE COMPUTER AND THE SOFTWARE WILL NOT LOAD ALL THE REQUIRED DRIVERS. THE CAMERA WORKS GREAT OFF THE COMPUTER AND TAKES EXCEPTIONAL STILL PICTURES AND IT COMES WITH A CARRYING CASE AND BATTERIES.
windows xp operating system offers a software compatibility mode. try this to get the windows 98 software included with the camera to work.

I USE 4 MILLENNIUM NIMH RECHARGEABLE AAA BATTERIES WHEN USING THE CAMERA AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER. TO DOWNLOAD TO THE COMPUTER JUST ATTACH THE USB CABLE, GO THE INTEL PROVIDED SOFTWARE AND THE ARE READY TO VIEW ON YOUR COMPUTER, E-MAIL, PLACE ON WEB PAGE OR DO A SLIDE SHOW.

WHEN USED AS A WEB CAM IT WAS GREAT AND DELIVERED VERY SHARP IMAGES TO THE WEB CAM SITE. SOME TIMES IT WOULD CRASH AFTER 20 OR 30 MINUTES AND SOMETIMES IT WAS STILL RUNNING AFTER BEING ON ALL NIGHT. I AM STILL TRYING TO GET THIS CAMERA WORKING AS I WRITE THIS REVIEW. I WILL UPDATE YOU!  JULY  2002  I ENJOY THE SMALL SIZE OF THE INTEL CAMERA AND THE QUALITY OF THE PHOTOS THE INTEL CAMERA DELIVERS. I HAVE STILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET ALL THE FEATURES TO WORK. I JUST SENT IN FOR THE FREE XP UPDATE AND I WILL UPDATE YOU WHEN THE NEW SOFTWARE ARRIVES.
8/7/2003 UPDATE OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS I HAVE BEEN GETTING MORE EMAIL SAYING THAT YOU NEVER RECEIVED YOUR UPGRADE FOR XP AND NOW THAT YOU HAVE A XP COMPUTER YOUR OLD INTEL SOFTWARE WILL NOT EVEN LOAD ON TO IT. I SENT IN FOR MINE OVER A YEAR AGO ALSO AND NEVER RECEIVED IT. SO TODAY I CALLED INTEL. IF YOU ORDER SOFTWARE DURING THE FREE UPGRADE PERIOD ENDING AUGUST 1, 2002 SEND THEM A E-MAIL EXPLAINING THE PROBLEM TO: support@intel.com.

11/7/2003 UPDATE OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS I STILL GET EMAIL ASKING ME WHERE THE FREE SOFTWARE IS! IF ANY OF YOU EVER RECEIVED THE FREE SOFTWARE PLEASE EMAIL ME BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER TALKED TO ANYONE THAT RECEIVED IT. VEO HAS BEEN SUPPLYING FREE SOFTWARE CD, EVEN TO THOSE WITH 3 AND 4 YEAR OLD CAMERAS AS THEY UPGRADE TO NEW XP COMPUTERS.

IF YOU JUST GOT A NEW XP COMPUTER THEN GO TO http://www.shop-intel.com/ AND ORDER IT FOR ONLY $5.95

My sister bought me a little pocket camera and sorry to say I gave it to my son. I just bought another one.
I have tried the other camera's and I don't think they can hold up to this one. What I like is the amount of pictures that you can get off of this little camera. I haven't found any that can do it.
As for the quality of the pictures, video's that you can do with this software makes it very easy to do. The compatibility and quality of the print is better some times that the stores processing.
I just thought I would comment as well.
Enjoy your pictures, video's with the soft ware.
