TM-G707A
The affordable and user friendly TM-G707A is the right choice for today's Amateur operation with more features for the money than all the competition. The large 7 segment LCD and remote display capability makes the Tm-G707A a clear winner. The easy to use menu system and the all new Quick Memory function are welcome features. The TM-G707A also boasts superior intermodulation rejection characteristics in areas with high RF traffic.Features

Let me first say that I really enjoy
your web site. Very straightforward and informative.
I'm a newbie and am in the process of
buying my first mobile rig. I would like a dual band unit and
have narrowed the choices down to the Yaesu FT-7100M or the Kenwood
TM-G707A. You are very positive about the Yaesu, but I have
read a lot of negative reports on eham.net and yahoo about the
problems associated with this unit (at least the first production
batch with serial numbers beginning with 1). On the other
hand, the Kenwood unit seems to have nothing but good things written
about it. Granted, it does not have the memory or the dual
band capability of the Yaesu.
What is your opinion of these 2
radios? Which do you feel is a better buy?
Thanks for the help.

| ANSWER FROM JIM, NØUQZ: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| THE BIG ADVANTAGE TO THE 7100 IS THE MEMORY CHANNELS. IF YOU HAVE 146.925 YOU SAVE IT IN THE 2 METER GROUP IN CH 92 IF YOU HAVE 444.925 YOU SAVE IT IN THE 70 C METER GROUP IN CH 92 IF YOU ARE ON 146.82 IN MEM CH 82, TO GO TO 146.925 YOU JUST PUSH 92 * AND IT JUMPS TO THAT MEM CH. THE KENWOOD G707HAS MEMORY RECALL BUT THE MEMORY NUMBERS AVAILABLE ARE SHARED SO YOU ARE LIMITED. THE PUSH TO TALK ON THE KENWOOD IS VERY STIFF THE 7100 LETS YOU SKIP A CHANNEL THAT IS LOCKED UP YET WITH JUST A 1/2 SECOND PUSH OF THE TONE BUTTON, AND THEN IT IS RESET ITSELF AGAIN AFTER YOU END THE CURRENT SCANNING SESSION. FT 7100 AMP DRAW SQUELCHED IS ON .5 AMP THE KENWOOD IS 1 AMP WITH 2 WATTS AUDIO FROM THE SPEAKER. I THINK IT IS ABOUT 800 MA SQUELCHED. I HAVE HAD 8 PERSONAL KENWOOD TRUE DUAL BANDDERS LIKE THE CURRENT V7A THE BLUE FACE KENWOOD IS A TRUE DUALBANDER AND CROSSBAND REPEAT WITH REMOTE CONTROL FROM A HT OR OTHER RADIO WITH A KEY PAD MICROPHONE. I NOW HAVE 1 KENWOOD TRUE DUAL BANDER. AND 4 YAESU TRUE DUAL BANDDERS, AND 2 FT 7100'S. THE RECEIVE ON MY 2 FT 7100'S IS FABULOUS. READ REVIEW HERE YOU ASKED WHAT IS THE BEST BUY? THEY
BOTH COST ABOUT THE SAME. I HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDING THE YAESU FOR MONTHS
NOW. IF YOU WANT TO SPEND THE EXTRA BUCKS AND GET 2 MORE BANDS AND
CROSSBAND REPEAT BUY THE
NEW YAESU FT 8900R |

Thanks for the quick response.
Sounds like the 7100 will be the rig for me.
