QUESTIONS & ANSWERS, ON THE TS 2000 BY JIM BAUDO, N0UQZ

USER COMMENT Proc In sets the desired amount of compression when monitoring the COMP display.  I find about 10 dB on peaks works for me.  Proc Out is used to
set the output of the processor for proper ALC (just like the mic gain
does when the processor is off).

You must meter COMP when setting Proc In and ALC when setting Proc Out.
Another hint to effective processor operation is to cut the transmit
bandwidth to 2.4 or 2.2 kHz when using processing to keep the audio as
clean and punchy as possible.  Save the wider transmit bandwidths for
unprocessed audio.

USER COMMENT To see the results of the PROC IN and OUT settings, you must enable the COMP portion of the s-meter on the software.  To do this, first click the PROC button to enable the processor, then click the METER button until COMP appears in the lower left portion of the display. Then, as you vary the PROC levels in the MULTI window, you can see the results on the meter. Good luck, Mike  KI5MP
USER COMMENT I have been using my Kenwood TS2000 for the past few weeks in the crossband repeater mode.  I put main receiver on 29.6FM and subreceiver on UHF.  This allows me to work ten meter FM while I am at work, or on the bicycle around town, etc.  Seems to work great, and it is a blast!  Has anyone else been using the crossband repeater mode for a while?  Are their any problems that I should know about, etc?   73s John NE0P johngeig@yahoo.com

Hi! can you tell me which is the best mike for the TS-2000? I'm shopping for that radio. Thanks. 73 de K4Ben bendiazjr@worldnet.att.net
CAN THE BROADCAST BAND SENSITIVITY BE IMPROVED? Yes, this is the case, it worked very well for me. Turn the radio over and remove the bottom cover. With the tuning knob facing you the jumper is "Near" the  right rear mixed in with some other components, there is some silk screening on the board with reference to BC band sensitivity. The jumpers are CN 3 and CN 4, select the "DX" position from "Normal" by moving the jumper to short the correct set of pins. As I remember there are some components near the outside of the PCB, a gap and some components away from the outside group. These are the area where the jumper resides. If you are over sighted use a magnifing glass to find the silly things. Keep one hand on the chassis of the rig to avoid damaging anything with static discharge! 73 HTH, Rob WA9UAA

COMMENT Never heard another 2K on the air. Maybe there needs to be a 2K users net ??

Great idea.  Where do you want to meet?

How about this! 20 Meters?  14.137?  0100 UTC, 1800 MST?  Monday, Wed.,
Fri., and Sat.?

Whaddia all Say?  Start tonight if you want to.  Or???  Somebody else
suggested it so I won't butt in.  It's yours, but..  If you want, I'll
help out until you get your radio.  Or ??? Whoever wants to take it.  No
matter to me.  Just tossing out someplace to start.  You can take it
from there if you wish!

But I think it's a great idea to let the rest of the world, or U.S. in
this case,  actually hear what these radios sound like.  Especially if
you have a Heil Goldline on it.  I don't know about you all, but here's
the kind of thing that happens to me all the time.

'Hi, I just wanted to break in to tell you that you have the BEST
sounding station I have ever heard on Ham Radio.  And I've been a Ham
for X number of years.  For a minute there I thought I was listening to
an FM Radio station. I had to look down to see where I was at.'

This is typical.  This happens to me all the time.  I LOVE it of course,
but more importantly, It's not just MY station, but anyone who has this
radio, and gets it set up properly.  Or this combination Radio and Mic.
I suspect the Heil Goldline has a lot to do with it as well.  It won't
even work on my Icom.  But that's another issue.  But remember ALL those
settings, when you first got your radio?  A little intimidating to say
the least.  The 'Net', could always help out with something like that as
well.  Suggestions on how to set the thing up.

Well, what do you think?  14.137 may, or may not be a good place.  But
KC4AAA, at the South Pole is always on 14.243.  So, we won't interfere,
or be interfered with, by the 'Big Gun's', and the Pile up over there.
And, at the same time, we're close enough to a 'Major' Freq., because of
the Pile Up that the South Pole Creates, that many should be able to
just stumble upon us by accident as well.

I don't know.  Just some ideas. Just let me know.  I'll be there!

Now, what does everyone else say?

You have the A/B VFO's right.  On the TS-2000, the A VFO is always the receiving (downlink) VFO, regardless of whether it is in the MAIN BAND or SUB BAND position (when using A/B or TF-SET).

It is quite easy to tune the Doppler shift by hand, as the downlink is high by 3 kHz coming towards you and low by 3 kHz going away.  The uplink is low by 3 kHz coming towards you and high by 3 kHz going away from you.  If you wanted to set them up in memory, it would look like this:

145.803/145.987  (start of pass, 3 minutes)
145.800/145.990  (middle of pass, 3 minutes)
145.797/145.993  (end of pass, 3 minutes)

Piece of cake! 73 es CU on RS0ISS,  Jerry, K5OE

HOW DO I CHECK FIRMWARE VERSION?  I powered the TS-2000X radio with the N.R. and MIC buttons pressed. I get a 8bd6 checksum 007fe8a9. But I don't know if has the latest firmware?  Xavier /F8BSY

Does anyone know what the duty cycle is for the Kenwood TS2000?  I can find nothing about it in  the literature. Love the radio, though.  73s John NE0P
