THE INTERNAL CHARGER MORE THAN KEEPS THE BATTERY AT 100%, AND AT THE SAME TIME PROVIDES FULL OUTPUT POWER TO YOUR HT. IF YOU USE A MOBILE RADIO LIKE FOR 3 OR 4 HOURS DAILY. REMEMBER TO TURN THE RADIO OFF WHEN YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE USING IT.  THE BACKUP BATTERY IS A 12 VOLT 7 AMP HR.  I RECOMMEND WIRING A CIGARETTE LITER PLUG TO THE INTERNAL BATTERY THEN YOU CAN POWER THINGS EQUIPPED THAT WAY. IF YOU NEED A LOWER VOLTAGE USE THE APPROPRIATE ADAPTOR AND YOU ARE READY FOR ALMOST ANY SITUATION THAT REQUIRES 3 TO 12 VOLT DC OR 110 VOLT AC.
