| I have been asked many
times what software I use to construct my web site pages. I thought it was
about time to do a review on web page creation software. so here it is. My first
attempt at web page creation was with a Lotus product that came with the lotus
smart suite, called, FASTSITE. it came with some basic templates to get
you going but lacked a good help file to let you go just a bit farther with
some personal ideas on the pages. I will not review FASTSITE because unless
you are willing to accept the bare necessities for construction of a small 4
or 5 page site it was I felt, inadequate for what I wanted.
Someone sent me some files
and a shareware program called HOTDOG and I remember seeing a site that a
bicycle club had done with it that I had viewed and I liked it very much and I
thought that I probably had found a easy and straight forward program that I
would feel at home with. I was wrong as some of the files were missing
and I was completely unable to make progress. I did not go on any farther with
HOTDOG.
I had heard that Microsoft
had a program included with Windows 98 called FRONTPAGE EXPRESS. I had brushed
it off earlier as I figured it probably was as bad as Microsoft PAINTBRUSH,
but I decided to give it a try. To my surprise it was easy to use and placed
photos from my digital camera on the page easily and before you know it I had
30 pages done in about 5 days. I also discovered that PAINTBRUSH was now
called PAINT, and could clean up my jpg photo files. In a few days I was up to
45 pages and was jealous at what I had seen on other peoples web pages. I was
again in the search for the next step up in web site development.
I am very fortunate in
that living in Omaha, Nebraska that we proudly have the largest volume
computer store in the world. MEGA MART sales are $24,000,000.00 as reported in
a computer trade publication with just 1 store. They are also located in the
worlds largest furniture and appliance store, THE NEBRASKA FURNITURE MART with
total sales combined of about $300,000,000.00. ADDED

I heard that the MEGA MART
had 3,200 software titles in stock so I felt that I could not find a better
place to shop for the ultimate in web site development software than right
here in my own home town. I arrived at THE MEGA MART and found about a dozen
titles to choose from. A customer commented to me when he saw I was looking at
web software that unless I had a full fledged Doctorate in software science
and a 2010 computer, like will be available in a couple of years I had better
choose MICROSOFT FRONTPAGE. I read the system requirements on the box and my AMD K6 300
(BOUGHT IN IN 1997) was more than sufficient. I did not even consider some of the more graphic intensive
programs because I wanted pages to open fast and look good because of the
quality pictures I would have on my pages. I did not want the fancy slow
opening graphics that take for ever to open on a dial up modem like most
people are still using.

This background is the
first example I want to show you. adding it is as easy as a right mouse click
and select page properties and the choose, background and browse to the file
with the background you want and it done. STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ARE:
The default background
color is white. I found that I preferred the lightest yellow, HERE
IS HOW YOU CHANGE THE COLOR, RIGHT MOUSE CLICK ANYWHERE ON THE PAGE, CHOOSE
PAGE PROPERTIES, LEFT mouse CLICK, CHOOSE BACKGROUND, CHOOSE BACKGROUND AGAIN,
CHOOSE MORE COLORS, click for THE LIGHT YELLOW color that MICROSOFT FRONTPAGE offers,
THE LIGHTEST YELLOW is what
I used on the majority of my pages. IT'S THAT SIMPLE.
