Jim the tent is very good quality and
withstood a couple of real down pore's of rain and hail. The
one concern I had is not the fault of the mfr. I have a
Chevy Astro van with dual, swing open back doors. This tent
is basically made for van's and SUV's that have a lift up
tailgate that supports the "snorkel" between the tent and
the vehicle. I never even thought of the fact that, in a
rainstorm, the snorkel, having no support would collapse in
and fill with gallons and gallons of water. It did hold but
started to "drip". I solved the problem by placing a 4' X 4"
piece of 1/2 in plywood over the top of the open cargo doors
and that supported the snorkel just fine. My only other
concern was where the snorkel and van roof meet. The vans
roof has channels to run rain off and thus the
snorkel conforms itself to the "high" part of the channel
leaving a miniscule gap at the "low" spots. In a heavy rain
I got some run back but the tent wasn't at fault. In most
camp spots I backed in so I could disconnect the tent and
drive out. In most cases the drive in areas are on an
incline going down into the campsite so the runback of the
water was due to gravity. I solved this by filling in the
gaps with poly. I would like to say that the snorkel is
very well made and seals beautifully around the Van body. We
had a very, very wet summer and the mosquito's at the camp
sites were dense. The snorkel sealed perfectly and kept the
bugs out totally. The whole tent is a quality piece of goods
and an excellent value for the money. The tent came with
suction cups to mount the snorkel for vehicles without roof
racks. My van is one of those and I was concerned that the
cups wouldn't hold. No such worry. they work beautifully. By
the way I had a conversation with the Canadian distributor
and they were most helpful. They said that they plan to
advise customers with the cargo style van doors about the
need for support for the snorkel. I hope they do.
Jim, I live in Carberry, South Central
Manitoba, about 50miles from the U.S. border, right above
the center of North Dakota.
