YAESU SCAN LIMITS REVIEW BY JIM BAUDO

THIS PAGE IN GENERAL COVERS MOST OF THE YAESU MODES SINCE 1990 FOR BOTH HANDIE TALKIES, MOBILES AND BASES.

This feature allows you to set sub-band limits for either scanning or manual VFO operation.

For example, you might with to set up a limit (in North America) of 144.300 MHz to 148.000 MHz so as to prevent encroachment into the SSB/CW "Weak Signal" portion of the band below 144.300 MHz. Here’s how to do this:

1. Set the radio to the VFO mode by pressing the key, if necessary..

2. Store 144.300 MHz into Memory Channel #L1 (the "L" designates the Lower sub-band limit).

3. Likewise, store 148.000 MHz into Memory Channel #U1 (the "U" designates the Upper sub-band limit).

4. Switch to the Memory mode by pressing the key once, then rotate the DIAL to select Memory Channel # L1.

5. Press and hold in the SCAN KEY. You can see you are now scanning between the upper and lower operation limits you selected.

USER COMMENTS: THANKS FOR RECOMMENDING THE YAESU RADIOS TO ME JIM, I REALLY LIKE MINE. I SET UP THE POLICE BAND IN L5 460.000 AND U5 460.500 WITH 25 SCAN STEP, I NEVER MISS ANY ACTION. IT'S GREAT!  K0QVL

Hi Jim,

I too own a VX-1R and enjoy using it as a scanner.  I saw your web page regarding it and share your enthusiasm for this little wonder!

But I have a question.  From time to time, I've seen references to loading frequencies to memory location "1L" and "1U", etc.  What do the "L" and "U" letters refer to?  I can't find it in the Yaesu manual.  I'm a newbie to this stuff so please pardon my ignorance.
